This is part 2 of the Radar article where I pick one player from each team and provide their stats radar and why I am interested in watching them. The following teams are covered in this post: Ukraine, Switzerland, France, Hungary, Georgia, Romania, Poland, Serbia, Czechia, Italy, Slovakia, and Denmark.
This now completes one player for all 24 teams, if you missed it you can read part one here.
Ukraine 🇺🇦
Why I’m interested: Dovbyk has been seriously popping in my model from day one. I am hoping he can bring most of his La Liga production to the international stage. 1.4 Projected Goal Involvements for the group stage.
Switzerland 🇨🇭
Why I’m interested: I will be keeping an eye on pretty much everyone from Bayer Leverkusen after their season, but Granit Xhaka in particular given the extent to which his performances defied expectations.
France 🇫🇷
Yeah…
Hungary 🇭🇺
Why I’m interested: I enjoy it when a player from a relatively weaker international team can do a bit of everything because it amplifies their talismanic nature. Szoboszlai is one of the best examples of this for Euro 2024. Milos Kerkez was a close second - I think he is going to be really good.
Georgia 🇬🇪
Why I’m interested: Let’s keep the talismanic theme going. Kvaratskhelia is projected just under one goal for the group stage but this is still a large share of Georgia’s total expected goals. On my model numbers, Georgia are the second-weakest team overall and have just 16% chance of finishing in the top 2 of their group.
Romania 🇷🇴
Why I’m interested: Although the comparison sample is more favourable, this is still a surprisingly good radar. He is showing up very well in my projection numbers too. If he gets the minutes then maybe a good chance he has the highest goal involvement for Romania.
Poland 🇵🇱
Why I’m interested: Poland’s chances have been quite disappointing in my numbers. Only 12% chance of finishing top 2 in their group. If we see Poland doing well then I expect this to be driven by the two fullbacks, with Frankowski who I am most excited about.
Serbia 🇷🇸
Why I’m interested: Honestly, I still can’t work out how good Vlahovic actually is.
Czechia 🇨🇿
Why I’m interested: A unique radar for a unique player. Nothing will bring me more joy than seeing a Soucek headed goal this tournament.
Italy 🇮🇹
Why I’m interested: an old favourite from the friends at
. When the stocks were at their lowest, they believed in him. I feel he was completely misused at West Ham and I wish he was still in the Premier League.Slovakia 🇸🇰
Why I’m interested: This radar is generous in two ways: (i) larger more favourable sample for Eredivisie inclusion; (ii) a centre-back comparison even though he gets a good share of minutes at left-back. Regardless, it is still impressive to see this level of offensive and defensive contribution from these positions.
Denmark 🇩🇰
Why I’m interested: Højlund is one of those players where the term ‘profile’ gets vaguely thrown around a lot. Yes, you can buy a profile, but you would also be hoping to buy at least *some* production. I am expecting more from him.
